ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A friend from Costa Rica picked these fruits on the table in random order. I was fascinated by their vividness and simplicity of composition. There was something primal, simple, and appealing about it.

Alexander Mikhaylov, a painter, conceptual and digital artist, draws on his background as a designer. He uses oil and acrylic, experiments with different techniques, and achieves depth and texture using brush and palette knife. His style balances on the line between realism and abstraction, using both simple primary colors and complex shades. His art speaks in the language of shapes and colors, it is an expression of freedom and a longing for exploration. One of the base components in my approach to painting is the search for color. I recollect the color, taking into account its place of action in the composition, trying to use it concisely and avoiding the overuse of color shades. I use acrylic, it makes me paint quickly and gives me freedom in technique. At the start it works like watercolor, at the second stage, I use pallet knives with its rigor, density, and clarity of lines.
