I fell in love with that Dutch tulip when I saw it on a picture. That's why I decided to paint it. I painted it with watercolor because that medium helps me to create the delicacy of that flower. But using watercolor is difficult because nothing can be erase, all must be perfect, it's always a challenge. It took me 12 hours to paint it. Many and may layers has been necessary. I used the wonderful 140lb hot pressed Arches paper. High quality oak frame. It's ready to hang, and signed at the back.

Karine WAGENER is a French painter who was born in Paris, and works there in her studio. In her very close portraits with bright, immediate forms, the artist poses flat areas of vivid colors that collide, free, bold, sometimes biting or sour. Although she often starts from photographs, she recomposes the frame to its own way and metamorphoses them through the sensuality of the oil. She then moves away from the glossy paper and advertising posters to fit into the portrait painting tradition. From the bottom of the child's or woman's eyes staring the spectator, comes a mysterious innocence, a certain dreamlike, distant happiness, it's a hymn to feminity and glamour in all its forms, in all its nuances. Her work is held in private collections across the world.
