My Color Block paintings are based simply on my love of pure color. I want to see big swatches of solid paint color and use embroidery as a way to frame each one and add more colors without disrupting the space with more paint. I work on unstretched canvas, making it part of the art content as opposed to just a background surface. Each piece is a hybrid of paint on canvas and embroidery on fabric, combining fine art with folk art.

Emily Keating Snyder is a Los Angeles artist working in abstract painting and minimalist embroidery. Her work brings craft into the context of fine art by literally stitching thread into artist’s canvas. Each piece balances rigidity with looseness, as spontaneous brushstrokes come together with intentional embroidered lines. Emily graduated from New York University in 2009. Her art has been featured by SF Girl By Bay, designlovefest, Parachute Home and Architectural Digest's Clever.
