This piece is a pairing of an oil painting on canvas and a found painting on wood (that is, a piece of an old painted store sign I found discarded in my neighbourhood). The two pieces are not identical twins, but rather a little painted conversation about weathering, texture and colour. They are clearly not identical twins at all. Many storefront will now have acrylic signs, so I appreciated this more tactile relic from the past. I hope the viewer will bask in the color and think a bit about time and its impact on materials and on us.

Marcia Teusink's work addresses issues of impermanence and the everyday. She is fascinated with the way that time, weather and the immutable forces of nature can return the rigid geometries of human creation to softer, more organic forms. Found objects pulled out of a river or picked up on the side of the road share space with collages made from found paper and images and paintings exploring wear and tear through multiple layers of texture and color. Tactility and humility are important aspects of Teusink's work: Scratching, staining, dripping, ripped edges, drying patterns, rubbish, decomposing papers and fabric scraps form a visual language that describes the passage of time and the fallibility of forms.
