In Greek mythology theban theban goddess. She was the daughter of King Cadet and Harmony. With the god Zeus, who was her lover, had the son of Dionysus. Once jealous of Zeus's wife, Hera, in the form of a mortal, persuaded Semele to put her lover in the test - if she really was a god, then she would appear in her divine form. Embodied Zeus finally agreed to fulfill his wish and appeared before his beloved in the form of lightning. Semele died of lightning, but Zeus saved her six months. He covered him in his thigh and gave birth to the little Dionysus - the future god of wine and fertility. Semele after her death hit Hades, but when Dionysus grew up, he took her from there to Olimp, the goddess Tyone.
