About The Artwork

“Dark stairs climbed, at first I couldn’t see anything because of the intense sunlight. When my eyes got used to the light, the first thing I saw was giant naked human figures with long legs, their arms and legs cut off. They had alien heads like Barbie dolls… a bunch of giants!” Göknil Gümüş Sungurtekin Expressionism emphasizes personal expression. This is how the artist remembers seeing lifeless mannequins for the first time in the textile company warehouse on her uncle's terrace. This memory was a first in in her childhood mind and became a fantasy world that triggered her imagination. In this painting, the artist made a reference to this first moment, which is both a dream and a memory, perhaps a moment that she likens to birth, and constructed this painting as she remembered and imagined it. This work, which examines color mathematics, focuses on color orchestration as much as German Expressionism. In crafting this vibrant scene, I've unleashed bold oil pastel strokes to invoke a visceral blend of expressionism and fauvism. Each figure, drenched in emotion and color, tells a story, fusing figurative grace with fine art. The piece is a dance of light, shadows, and hues, celebrating human connection in a dynamic, intimate space. It's a visual symphony meant to stir the soul and add a pulse of life to any room.
