ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Newest work. Under Belly (Love Trumps Hate) My current focus is on communication in the digital media age with particular attention to symbols that have emerged with new meaning and popularity in the common vernacular. Universal symbolism of everyday use contrasted with antiquated printed media portends to the loss of civility and distrust in the current misinformation moment. Using ASCII to Binary conversions of simple phrases layered with color symbolism and phrasing, I tell a contemporary tale of nationalism amid a desensitized public. This specific piece contrasts the phrase "Love Trumps Hate" against the bottom phrasing "Hate Trumps Love". Also in the lower mix is the phrase "You are not my kind". The piece uses the word Trump as an adjective - a verb provoking Americans into factions. Yet, being an optimist, I am betting that more Americans honor love in their hearts than hate. The piece is painted to reveal the lower area like a wound under the skin. The binary, not readily known to the viewer, imitates our social media, where information is not always true, occasionally purposefully veiled and often misunderstood.

Intuitively evolved, emerging artist. My art has advanced through practice, study and patience. I divide my time between two mediums, digital and encaustic collage where often the boundaries intersect in one artistic statement. Layers of imagery, line and pigment are my tools. Time invested in the mediums has been my teacher. My current focus is on communication in the digital media age with particular attention to symbols that have emerged with new meaning and popularity in the common vernacular.
