About The Artwork

Oil on Panel 36X60 Mixed Media Semi-Precious Stones 2.5 Museum Panel ORIGINAL – this is the original; no reproductions will be make of this painting Ready to hang, no frame required. This painting is such a large, breathtaking painting in person. This to date is the most semi precious stones that I have used in one painting so far…(stay tuned) but the amount of Red Coral, fresh water pearls, and shell that was used was at least 40 16 inch strands of beads plus other loose stones I had. This painting weighs a good 45 lbs by the time I got it completed due to the amount of stones used. It took me days just to add the stones on the panel, I had so much fun, was alot of work and I truly think it payed off in the end. I have been collecting this amount of semi precious stones and especially the coral for over a year. Getting the largest pieces of coral for this painting I could find. I was inspired by many things; 1. The beautiful Red Coral; I have always been so intrigued by it, the bold, deep red color and the variety of unique shapes and sticks of the individual coral pieces. Let alone having so much of it and how amazing it looked put together in one large grouping made it so bold and grand to me. 2. Being in San Diego and my love for the sea and being so intrigued with “what lies beneath” which is so different than what we see by just looking out over the ocean from the shore. I wanted to do a painting that showcased the stones which are what is found underneath the in the ocean. 3. The deep colors of the Pacific Ocean; The actual colors of the Red Coral and wanting to complement that bold, deep red with the deep blue of the pacific here in San Diego that we have. I love the deep, rich colors that we see here and wanted to do a piece that was indicative to the pacific ocean. Stones used: Coral: Provides protection. Calms emotions. Helps with asthma and digestive problems. Guards against violence, accidents and theft. Associated with the element of water. Brings peace within the self. Facilitates intuition, imagination and visualization. Sign of Pisces. Used for this painting: Red Coral; In the upper right is natural red coral while the rest of the coral is enhanced or died coral. The gold stick like pieces on the left of the painting are coral as well. Pearl: Promotes sincerity, truth, loyalty, charity. Enhances integrity. Soothes, calms. Helps with purity, honestly, feminine wisdom. Spiritual Transformation. Good for helping you focus while meditating.. Allows us to see the way we appear to others. Sign of Cancer & Gemini. Used for this painting: The bottom gold pieces are fresh water pearls. Shell: The pieces that are black and grey tones at the bottom right are shell that have been cut and polished. This painting is apart of my "Elements Series" Elements Series; incorporating semi-precious stone and unique pieces of the earth in a creative way. This painting is part of my mixed media “ELEMENTS” Series where I want to bring in elements on the earth into my art. I love nature, I love finding things that have been created by nature such as semi precious stones and other items from the earth. I love working with and showcasing the unique beauty that you find in each semi precious stone. I work with mostly Grade A and B semi precious stones; sometimes I use the same stones that are in rough form before they are faceted that you see in a fine piece of jewelry. Most of the stones I use have been gathered for a year in order to incorporate together into my art. I get them from all around the world from various locations and venders. Each semi precious stone also has individual properties that generate energetically from the stones. This is by wearing the stone, touching the stones and by having them in a room in your home. I encourage people to touch the stones on the art to resonate with the properties. I have included some of the properties of the stones in the description so you will be aware of their specific properties; some are healing, energizing, loving, calming, resonate with different chakras, and evoke emotions. I hope you enjoy them as much as I love creating them. Materials used: Semi Precious Stones; Red Coral, Apple Coral, Shell, Fresh Water Pearls

Art and creativity are deeply rooted in Tesa Michaels, a fifth generation artist and third generation fine artist. From a young age she was immersed in a creative atmosphere that offered constant inspiration and a family that nurtured her artistic endeavors and encouraged her to be a professional artist. In grammar school she won art contests, was advanced in her artistic skill for her age, at the age of 12 painting her first oil painting taught by her mom, painting murals for schools. Tesa’s grandmother and mother introduced and taught many mediums to Tesa, who gravitated toward fine art, drawing and painting. At age 17, Tesa was accepted into her first national show, and she taught the art class during the last semester of her senior year of high school. Tesa attended The Art Institute of Colorado, studying fine art then graphic design. Following school, she worked in the graphic design field, in printing as an art and marketing director for a health products company, and in advertising at J. Walter Thompson as an art director working on Ford Motor Company commercials. Realizing she had moved too far from her roots as a fine artist, Tesa began a new career as a professional artist focusing on oil paintings. Wanting to share her enthusiasm and technical skills as an artist, Tesa has taught art workshops and classes at The Showcase Art Center and Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado. In Colorado, she studied under Clifford T. Bailey, who helped her develop and fine-tune her oil painting skills and helped her to find her voice as a fine artist. “He has encouraged me and influenced me as an artist and mentor; for that I will be forever grateful, which will forever reflect in my work as an artist.” As a Colorado native fond of that state’s lakes and mountains, Tesa has always been inspired by nature. Tesa now lives in San Diego, where she enjoys the ocean and beach. She has always been intrigued with the bold colors painted in the sky at sunset and loves re-creating them on canvas. It comes very naturally….. So it comes so natural to Tesa to paint landscapes, skies, mountains and seascapes. “I try to capture that one amazing moment when the colors line up perfectly in the sky and landscapes, when the values are strong and bold.” Tesa captures the bold essence of nature in her paintings, she captures that small, simple moment in time where the light hits the landscapes perfectly, which will takes your breath away.
