About The Artwork

My work often starts in the studio with painting washes of color and then to screen printing shapes and patterns. I don't start with an end goal in mind. I allow the work to take form via the process. This work is about as painterly as my work gets blending line and washes of color through many layers. If feels more like a painting then drawing. I work on paper because I feel it leaves more to the viewers imagination. Paper is more ubiquitous in society and doesn't have the same connotation as a canvas would. It is a more open medium in that respect. This is done a bright white paper with the painting stretching to the edge of the paper. Again my paper is worked; I mark it, drip on it, rub it. This is not a perfect sheet of paper. I embrace imperfection in the process. I don't want to be perfect in life or in my work. In terms of subject matter. This work is about openings and various intersections of reality. It can be both calming and chaotic depending on how you want to view it. If you read more about my art you'll see that I embrace the utility of art as a useful tool to experience or think about the world. Art for me must of a purpose and not exist as an object of desire. I often abstract from nature given the most beautiful forms are found in nature.

I am inspired to create physical and emotional space in our daily lives through art. When I begin a work, it is about creating openings for the viewer to engage with. I see the work not as a statement but a living, breathing and useful object. The utility of it is paramount. I wish for it to provide a freedom that one only experiences in passing when glancing at beauty or smelling a fragrant scent. I live and work in New York and enjoy all that it has to offer.
