This is one in a series of 6 canvasses that explore the use of paint and tinted plaster. By grinding acrylic paint and plaster into the canvas, then scraping it off, it creates a unique textural work. It is inspired by the urban sidewalks that have different shades of grey and varied textures.
The composition is inspired by Rothko.

Whether designing buildings, landscapes, furniture, jewelry or painting, Marion's multidisciplinary background and evolving sensibility are always informing her work in new ways. She draws inspiration from the art of Twombly, Johns, Rauschenberg , Schnabel, Richter, Diebenkorn and Rothko as well as street art, billboards and nature. Her current project is a series of paintings that explore the horizontal aspect of landscapes in various shades and hues. She often works in monochromatic tones with text overlays, which she sees as a visual representation of her internal voice and the omnipresent white noise of media. Explaining her process, she says, "I start with an idea or concept as a point of departure and often end up with something entirely different as the painting emerges..It takes me a long time to come up with an idea but the actual painting is very fast. “I use a method of arbitrary choice, chance, inspiration and destruction that produces unexpected results.” After a lifetime of drawing and painting, Marion is thrilled and inspired by the freedom she has found in this process.
