Untitled II Painting

This diptych is inspired by an unfinished building (never-completed shopping mall) located in Zagreb. This abandoned structure served me as a starting point for new ideas, an empty shell open for diverse possibilities of interpretation, a shell out of which I’ve decided to point out that which has drawn me to it the most. Although the phrase “Untitled” is often used, especially in works of contemporary art, here it stands with justification defining the unfinished space (building) that never attained its function. As such, the paintings from this series (such as this diptych), are ridden of a title, so that the depictions of this facility would stay free of any further, and quite possibly redundant substantiality, but also such in order to stay in accordance with the sole topic of the empty and unused interior of an abandoned building which never gained any specific purpose. Each of the two paintings contains a different sight, (fragment), of a building. As a sort of a montage, together they create a new construction (composition).
