ABOUT THE ARTWORK

unstretched canvas When creating an artwork, most of the processing stages are based on emotions and improvisation. Once the painting is complete, my sole goal is for each viewer to find their own story when looking at the artwork. Still, if one is interested to hear my perspective on the work, I can say that it is, most importantly, about playing with the combination of colours, textures, lines, and more. My paintings, however, are mostly created with blotches of multilayered paint which are not intended to create figurative details as I want the painting to communicate the message as a whole.

Majid Eskandari is a contemporary abstract painter. He was born in Tehran, Iran and is currently living in Toronto, Canada. Majid, plus informal education based on a traditional master, received a BFA from Tehran Art University and a Diploma from Centennial College in Fine Art Studio. He has participated in several group shows in Tehran and Toronto. His work has also had the honour of having some paintings purchased by the President of Centennial for the College’s permanent collection. “Throughout my journey into painting, I have explored everything from non-representationalism through abstraction to high realism, for searching my true personal voice. The subject of my current paintings is usually people, animals, or some special objects, but I don’t try to show them realistically, I have used them simply as a subject matter, but very emotionally, loosely interpreting them to maintain visual interest. In other words, I look at the subject just as some marks in my paintings. Keeping the most of the canvas open and free is important to me – probably as an impact of the use of open in many oriental compositions on me.”
