ABOUT THE ARTWORK
These paintings are sourced from skateboard graphics, early 90s cartoons, op art, field painting, webpage backgrounds, punk and psychedelia. Because the paintings are intuitively built without restrictions, I have to overreact against the chaotic by containing it in layers and repetitive grids. Images of power and control emerge out of this process. I want to see how images of power and control derive from complexity, especially as it relates to the music, movies, and tv that I grew up with. This imagery is being shown as a story closely related to my experience and reifies the culture that precludes the paintings’ existence.
