Wendy McCauley Rifkin is a contemporary figurative painter. Her practice is inspired by the movement of the female body, and has evolved into gestural, abstract works from previous traditional realism paintings. The artist has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. She worked in New York as an illustrator for cosmetics companies, an art director for store catalogs, and a technical spec illustrator and presentation artist in the apparel industry. After moving to Los Angeles she was the owner and designer of an apparel company, Wendy McCauley, Inc., which was represented in stores across the country and overseas, as seen in Elle, Glamour, Mademoiselle, Women’s Wear Daily, The NY Times, Los Angeles Magazine, US Magazine, Seventeen, YM, Phillip Bloch’s Element of Style, and other publications. She then became a full-time mother and returned to her interest in drawing and painting, moving from a three dimensional focus in clothing on the body to a two dimensional form based on the miraculous female figure. Her portrait painting of Paulina Porizkova was published in Vogue Czechoslovakia in the May 2021 issue - the first time any of her work appeared in Vogue. Her work is in several private collections in the U.S. and overseas.
