About The Artwork

A piece from his "Control" series. Ink and acrylic on nylon, mounted on primed canvas. Massimo Meo's work centers on the relationship between the rigidity and delicate nature of the layered mediums. This balance is integral in his process, but more importantly, it reflects a clash of conflicting internal struggles. Most recently, he has been focused on the theme of control, and within this, a reminder of how untenable this is to achieve.

Massimo Meo is a multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal, Quebec. After graduating with a BFA in Film Studies from Concordia University in 2013, he has navigated his way through various high-profile film projects as a Visual Effects Producer on projects for Warner Brothers, Marvel, and Walt Disney. This, all while simultaneously pursuing the boundaries of his abstract art. Using this platform to experiment with story and the subconscious freely with color and pattern. Massimo's ambitions continue to lie between his passion for cinema and his devotion to the abstract form. Materials & Process Ink, watercolor, and acrylic are applied to nylon fabric in staggered stages. Throughout the process, the fabric and liquids are manipulated to alter the flow of the colors and to create new patterns within the image. Once the liquids have dried only the residual pigments remain embedded within the fibers. The fabric is mounted on a primed canvas where, through the layer of varnish, the pigments are released and solidified to the canvas. Depending on the complexity of the work, sometimes more than one layer of fabric is applied, each with different attributes to achieve the preferred effect.
