Ewa Jaros is a painter based in Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain. Her practice explores notions of memory, connection, distance and belonging through painting. Working primarily with oil on canvas and wood, as well as ink on paper, she develops compositions that move between abstraction and figuration, where gestures, symbols and recurring forms become a visual language.
She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and has also studied at the Barcelona Academy of Art.
STATEMENT
My painting explores the subtle connections between presence and absence, distance and closeness, fragmentation and unity. I am interested in the possibility of finding something familiar in what seems distant or disconnected — a sense of proximity that exists beyond physical space.
Each painting becomes an encounter, a process through which images, gestures and forms gradually emerge. Water, circles, strings, spirals, light, lines and bodies recur throughout my work as visual elements suggesting continuity, connection and transformation.
My process moves between spontaneity and intention. I work with accidental stains, layered surfaces and intuitive gestures, allowing unexpected forms to develop alongside more precise, almost instantaneous images. Although the initial act of painting can be quick and instinctive, the process of arriving at the final image often unfolds over a much longer period.
I approach painting as a way of discovering and giving form to something that is not yet fully known. The act of painting itself — the interplay between intuition, material and the emergence of images — remains central to my practice.
