My abstract paintings are created from maps, acrylic, charcoal and other mixed media transferred in layers onto canvas and paper. Throughout my work process, however, maps are my most significant material as they fuel the inspiration for my work. I have always collected maps of places I have travelled to. For me, these maps represent happy moments, cultural experiences, and political history all at once. My finished paintings are a manifestation of these elements, which represent my own idyllic albeit inexistent space, lying hidden within me. Ultimately, the physical places in my maps become unimportant in lieu of the memories that refuse to be forgotten.
