I have been a painter for almost 60 years. My oeuvre encompasses ambitiously-scaled mixed-media assemblages - known as ‘constructs’, and paintings combining elements of expressionism, gestural abstraction and pop imagery. I was born in 1942 and lived and worked for three decades in Soho, NY. I have exhibited in the U.K., France and Germany and was included in the inaugural Sunshine Museum International Exhibition in Beijing, China in 2008. In the United States I’ve had 11 solo shows and am represented in nine state museum collections including MoMA, New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. In 2005 I was one of six international artists chosen to create works on the theme of the Cold War for a 50-year memorial exhibition in Eschlkam, Germany. I am the recipient of numerous awards including two NEA grants, a Guggenheim Traveling Scholarship - which took me to Africa, and the prize for painting from the National Academy for Design, New York. My work has been reviewed in national media by the critics John Yau, Ken Johnson and Roberta Smith; and I am featured in Chapter 7 of The Pluralist Era: American Art 1968 – 1981 by Corinne Robins. I am a Professor Emeritus of Mass Art, Boston where I taught painting for over 17 years. I currently live and work in New Mexico, USA.
