Left or right? With this question one stands at the intersection. Here on Melrose Avenue ends Larchmont Boulevard, a very short but beautiful shopping street in Hancock Park. Looking north the way is blocked by the distant but highly visible antique shop “Variety Antiques”. I can’t remember what was in place of “Variety Antiques” before but the new purple color is not to be overlooked. The picture was taken shortly after the opening. One can see the colorful balloons swaying in the wind. In our backyard underneath a huge cactus was a sculpture of a gargoyle which had fascinated me for a long time. I had already thought about how I could use him. Right now I thought he would look good in front of the door of the antiques shop. Also I had much fun with my trees. The puffy leaf arrangements invite you to touch them, as if one could pick them individually. "Variety Antiques“ did not stay in business very long. The only thing that remains, lonely and empty, is the violet front.
