Vague is Only One Letter Away From Vogue Painting

We all have a story to tell, so my portraits focus and zoom in on that internal, psychological narrative, inspired by my love for music, literature and film. The canvas, as a two dimensional surface, is a story contained within a single moment. A snapshot by which the viewer can explore at his or her own leisure. The central motif of my work is duality. It demonstrates a tension between what we think and what we feel. I seek to create harmony between intensely dark emotions and colorful sensations. It's about making light of the dark, and vice versa. Emotions are rich, and intangible. To understand, rather than feel, an emotion is essentially just troubleshooting; searching for an answer within an infinitude of possibilities. So, naturally, there is something cathartic about stepping back to process emotions. To formulate a dry, logical analysis of extreme, intense, almost caustic emotion--Like that experienced in a moment of crisis or revelation--That's exciting to me.
