About The Artwork

Various passages of prophecy to do with Israel and/or mankind are intriguing to me. I felt drawn toward Ezekiel chapter 37, regarding a vision about the people of Israel. Though they had been disbursed across the world and away from their homeland, basically dead as a nation of people, God promised and promises to save a remnant and that a descendant of David (Jesus) would actually reign on the throne once again. This is yet future. Ezekiel 37:5 states "This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life." Though Israel (and mankind) are experiencing times of darkness and tribulation, hope is not far off. What is true of Israel is also true of the rest of humanity. The same hope is offered to all who can accept it. But even apart from the specific prophecy, when in our lives everything feels dead to us, hope can still be breathed into our situation allowing us to keep on. Using crayon wax (encaustics) I was going for a kind of apocalyptic background, and in the midst a skeleton, seemingly the end of it. It is part of my style to add scripture passages that art lovers would get more of a sense of the entire picture. In the vision that Ezekiel is given, the bones given breath rise up and they are covered again in flesh. It is a prophecy of hope. I had a similar dream in my earlier years where I experienced a bad earthquake and was buried. Looking up I saw earth, but I also noticed plant growth. I knew in my heart God was showing me that an important change was coming into my life and that I would be okay. And I am okay today. I had suddenly lost my job at the time (though I sensed things were not right) but then within a month I was blessed with better employment. Just as God is in control of the world's stage, so He is in control of every stage of my life.
