ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Vesavesa is a traditional type of Fijian handwoven basket. I spent a month back home in Fiji learning how to make some of our traditional crafts, such as the vesavesa so that I could understand the fundamental structure of what I would be essentially painting. This painting is from a series abstracting and deconstructing the vesavesa by using color and shape instead of the representational form.
