Victoria sponge is a playful work. The Victoria Sponge is named after Queen Victoria, who held the English throne for 63 years. Legend has it that Victoria requested small cakes to soothe the rumbling tummies of her courtiers between lunch time and dinner time. The Victoria sponge cake at the centre of tea-time was cut into small slices and accompanied by tea and sandwiches, this afternoon tradition became known within the court as ‘tea-time’. It is a quintessential English thing. The work gives a a tongue in cheek nod to colonialism and consumerism .The napkin looks a lot like a banned Concorde.
