About The Artwork

The paintings in Vintage New York (full bleed) are part of a series which was originally commissioned for the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, New York in 2005. They are all black, white, and gray with vintage references to the World's Fair, Central Park, New York skyline and architecture, and maps. The pieces also have a lot of stamping and stencils and transfers. I hope they give a feeling of nostalgia to New Yorkers.

"Working experimentally allows me to play with concepts and imagery while reinventing my art. The process of art making is as important to me as the finished product. Symbols that represent common threads and relationships of life are prevalent in my paintings. Combining the ancient art of printmaking with contemporary techniques and materials and is how my work evolves. Spontaneity and a sense of adventure are with me when creating. Color and texture are always at the heart of my art and there are many layers buried beneath the surface of any painting."
