Alfred Gockel was born in 1952 near Münster, Germany. In his childhood he worked as a miner at 700 meters / 2.300 feet depth. Because of this experience he uses self-prepared tar in his acrylics. During his travels he met Salvador Dali and Miro. Alfred is a great admirer of Chagall, Kandinsky and Picasso. In the US he was impressed by the art of Jasper Johns and Jackson Pollock. From 1985 he presented his artwork a.o. at the Art Expo NY. In 2006 Alfred Gockel designed the official American version of the Olympic Games Affiche, (Turin, Italy) during these Games 60 acrylics were exposed in Atlanta US. From 2003 Alfred gives artlectures and action-painting-performances at cruise ships, art events and charity-auction events. In 2008 he founded artgroup Quadriga, which is about etching, woodcut, linoleum and lithograph. Alfred Gockel’s high-quality etchings reach meanwhile the craftmanship of his inspirers. During the vernissage he often paints live an oversized canvas, so visitors have the privilege to see the master’s creative process. It’s amazing to see how he inspires the public with his accurate, gentle brushstrokes, sometimes with two hands at the same time. Unique brushstrokes on bright colour-palette are his signature. Alfred paints, equal to a musician, in a flow of smooth rhythm and syncopations. One recognizes Alfred’s signature in all the media he works with. .
