About The Artwork
About Vortex (B/W)… this one is a part of my new Vortex series of paintings I’ve created this spring. I wanted to play around with the perfect figure, the circle, to challenge the viewer and let them decide if it’s coming together, falling apart, or in stasis. I was inspired by the cyclical nature of things; the power of Mother Nature to create and destroy and renew; the forces within us and outside of us and how each can affect the other at different points in a timeline. Regarding the execution, I used different techniques to apply multiple rounds of acrylics and ink—varying this sequence within the Vortex series—to create texture and movement. I love the colors and how they're coming together, yet falling away, with multiple dense layers of paint applied to create a dynamic and memorable image.
