Also according to the Vu-Lan-tub sutra, Muc Kien Lien returned to find the Buddha to ask how to save his mother, Buddha taught that: "No matter how generous the god is, it is not enough to save his mother. There is only one way to help him. The power of the monks in all ten directions will hope to be rescued. The full moon day of the seventh month is a suitable day to offer the monks, please prepare the rituals on that day ". [2] Following the Buddha's words, Muc Lien's mother was freed.
