"Wabi-sabi is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete, unconventional , modest and humble." This Japanese aesthetic inspired me to create my own interpretation. I chose simple materials, such as paste and twigs as a contrast to the" slick, saccharine corporate beauty that is desensitizing American society. Wabi-sabi resolved my artistic dilemna about how to create something beautiful without getting caught up in the dispiriting materialism that surrounds us. This style shares characteristics of primitive art, objects that are earthy, simple, unpretentious and using some natural materials. Since Wabi refers to the inward ,subjective , sabi refers to the outward, objective". My intention is for the viewer to appreciate the combination of the two and thereby" enjoy minor details in their everyday life while gaining insight into beauty in the inconspicuous and overlooked aspects in nature." referenced from WABI-SABI for ARTISTS, DESIGNERS, POETS & PHILOSOPHERS by Leonard Koren.
