ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Wake Up Call" is a watercolor and acrylic painting on a wood panel, combined with my collaged handpainted Japanese rice papers. There are also found vintage photographs reproduced on rice paper. The photos were discovered at my dear 90 year old neighbor's estate sale. Many would discard them as unimportant or trash...but I found their simplicity beautiful. The painting also has touches of pencil throughout and a small bit of oil pastel. It's finished with many coats of matte UV varnish for extra protection. The painting measures 24" X 24" X 1 1/2". The sides of the canvas are painted a very light French gray...so it can be hung without a frame. My current abstract work is an inner reflection of my own battle with cancer and the realization that life is just too short. I hope it will be a reminder to not live life on auto pilot...seize the day, have fun and enjoy every moment that we are given.

Wyanne Thompson is a painter whose work reflects both her creativity and her remarkable personal journey. A BFA graduate of Wesleyan College, she has been a full-time artist for over 30 years, creating colorful, bold pieces that inspire and uplift. In late 2013, Wyanne (pronounced Y-Ann) was diagnosed with Stage IV head and neck cancer, undergoing surgery to remove her tongue and numerous lymph nodes. Despite the challenges, she relearned to speak and has been cancer-free for 10 years. Her survival journey transformed her art. Painting became her way of communicating and healing, capturing magic through color and energy.
