Cockatoos are native to Australia. They are noisy and quirky birds with big personalities. In this piece, I wanted to create the feeling that the native bush and birds are more than just wallpaper - they are part of the furniture and home. It is a painting that hopefully will make you smile. Colours are vibrant, reflecting the colours of the bush and birds. It is done in oils, thus creating richness and added lustre.

I draw inspiration from quiet, reflective moments in life – chairs, cupboards, the way light falls on a plate of pears…. The Danish concept ”hygge” describes these moments as “being present enough to recognize and acknowledge an act, moment or feeling when the ordinary feels extraordinary.” My way of understanding the unassuming beauty, charm and comfort found in these moments, is through expressive mark making using different materials. Sometimes it is through small scratches of detailed, abstract patterns using a pen. Often it is through bold colours. Colour fascinates me, it brings me great joy to see how colours communicate and connect.
