About The Artwork

I like walking around the city and I like looking up. Often, I feel I am one of the few who gaze above the sidewalks and store windows. “Let Us Raise a Standard to Which the Wise and Honest Can Repair. The event is in the hand of God.” These words are inscribed on the southern attic of the arch in Washington Square Park. They are the words of someone who accepted a compromise in order to advance a great concept. A compromise that people who are honest with themselves can wisely justify supporting. Whether George Washington did or did not speak them at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 is a matter of debate, but I am glad I looked up. Acrylic on 22 x 28 in. stretched cotton canvas. Unframed 1.25 in. gallery wrap.. Ready to hang. Signed and titled on the back.

Marco Domeniconi is an Italian-born visual artist based in New York City. Before devoting himself entirely to art, he earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and worked as a research scientist and professor at CUNY and NYU. It was while teaching in these vibrant university settings that he discovered the desire to express his creative identity. He has studied digital and large-format photography at the International Center of Photography, and drawing and painting at the New York Academy of Art. Nowadays, he works with various techniques from moody, unplanned black & white photographs to energetic, colorful abstractions. Both as a painter and as a photographer, he explores the interplay between his actions – direct and indirect - and unexpected events. He has produced private showcases, and participated in exhibitions both in the United States and internationally.
