About The Artwork
This was done shortly after a Residency at Vermont Studio Center at which I was encouraged by another artist to try a method reportedly used by the Japanese haiku poet, Basho. He would sit before his paper until the "space" between himself and the paper "disappeared". Then he would pick up his pen and write. When the poem seemed to occupy its own space, the poem was finished.
