Watts is a neighborhood in South Los Angeles's Eastside. It's still best known for the Watts Towers (built 1921-1954 ) and the Watts Riots (1965). Lots has changed in the intervening half century, needless to say, and I explored and mapped in 2014 for my series, "California Fool's Gold"

Eric Brightwell is an adventurer, explorer, cartographer, guerilla gardener, and writer... Eric Brightwell was born in Iowa City, Iowa but primarily raised in Lexington, Kentucky and Columbia, Missouri. Inspired by fantasy maps and text adventure computer games, he began drawing maps when he was about nine years old. He studied film theory at the University of Iowa where he made a point of visiting every block of every street in the city and its suburbs. After moving to Los Angeles in 1999, he began exploring and drawing maps again, beginning with a map of Elysian Park.
