BIOGRAPHY Martina Furlong was born in Co.Wexford, Ireland in 1974, moved to London in 1999 and returned to live in Ireland in April 2015. She received a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting from Limerick School of Art and Design in 1996. She has had solo and group exhibitions in America, Italy, London and Ireland and her work is in private collections across the world. STATEMENT “The artist must train not only his eye but his soul” Wassily Kandinsky. We all have a voice inside us that wants to be unlocked. Painting is my way to unlock that voice and to share the beauty, weirdness, emotions and inspiration that come from that internal world. I paint from the inside out. While my work is influenced by the things I see, feel and experience daily such as the Irish landscape, books, meditation and people my unconscious takes over as a painting progresses and it becomes an organic, intuitive process. I mostly use sketches as a starting point and will refer back to them if necessary but the finished piece is usually quite different to the initial sketch. My landscape and abstract paintings show my love of colour, shapes, lines and movement. They are atmospheric pieces made using layer upon layer of textured paint giving a sense of history and a sensuous quality to each piece. My aim is to create emotional, personal work that allows me to express myself while also encouraging the viewer to interpret each piece in their own way.
