ABOUT THE ARTWORK
DETAILS AND DIMENSIONS
SHIPPING AND RETURNS

I find driftwood fascinating. It tells a dramatic story, almost metaphoric: after being uprooted, traveled the seas and the storms, finds shore where totally belongs. Working impasto with palette knife fills this work with texture that gives dimension to the scene

Creating a painting is like embarking on a journey through the realms of my imagination. It all begins with an idea, often sparked by a dream, a lingering memory, or a blend of reality and my own perceptions. These concepts float through my mind, evolving and transforming, until I can vividly envision them on an imaginary canvas. When the time is right, I enter a sacred ritual in my studio. I throw open the window to let in the natural light, set the stage with the perfect playlist of music, and carefully choose the canvas, considering its size and orientation. Gessoing the canvas becomes a meditative process, and as it dries, my charcoal sketch takes form on a nearby pad. The music serves as a guiding force, shaping my mood and influencing my creative flow. It's a set of tunes reserved exclusively for my painting sessions. Attempting to listen to these melodies at any other time, like when I'm out walking my dog or driving, only fills me with an overwhelming desire to return home and dive into my art. With the canvas primed and ready, I meticulously inspect and arrange my palette knives, meticulously cleaning them as if preparing a surgeon's tray of scalpels. The sketch now asserts its presence on the canvas, and the essence of the artwork starts to take shape. This is when the vibrant tubes of oil paint assume their role, and the moment of decision arrives. My technique is impasto, where the colors are applied generously and directly onto the canvas, allowing me to blend, twist, daub, and manipulate them with the palette knife. Not only do I aim to capture the hues that have lived in my dreams, but I also infuse texture, dimension, depth, and a unique expression into the artwork. As I work, I fall into a deep trance, becoming one with the palette knife, immersed in the scene, and inhabiting every pixel of the canvas. This is the magic of painting, where I translate the visions from my mind onto the physical realm, and it's a profound and fulfilling experience that keeps me coming back to my studio, again and again.
