About The Artwork

These works are part of the 'Owning Her Desire' series which were created during the mind boggling years of 2019 and 2020. Their voice is even more urgent today given the menacing spiral of dire cultural and judicial wars that are hell bent on creating a tsunami to eradicate women's autonomy and overturn our freedom. These works are part of a clarion call that trumpets an antidote to the cultural compression, control and shame that are tools to hold us down and would turn us into victims or puppets. This work is constructed of stacked cutout wood panels. The layers between the figure and her backdrop question the ability of the current fabricated conditions to contain her. Demanding to be seen she pops off the wall. She Owns it.
