This work was created in 2020, a time of instability and fear worldwide. I created this piece as a way of finding strength in myself as well as sending a vibration of courage and love out in the universe. I also drew inspiration from some of the symbolism in my culture as a way to find wisdom from our elders. One example of that are the two half oval shapes representing the traditional Albanian hat, above and below her left hand; when placed together they symbolize the cosmic egg. This is a giclee print of the original artwork. As the artist I can guarantee the high quality of my prints and each piece is signed and dated. Limited edition prints in the original size are also available.

Ulisa Dekaj is a Canadian-Albanian artist, based in Toronto. She holds a BA from OCADU. Her work is dealing with matters of the psyche with an emphasis on human emotion. Looking within as well as hearing the stories of others, she constructs emotional landscapes of joy, sadness, contentment, fear, grief and gratitude. Visually, inspiration is drawn from idealized childhood memories. “Vast, flat, sunny places, awe-inspiring mountains, white Mediterranean walls at noon, large flat rocks by rivers. I place my subjects in these landscapes and they become the cradle of all the emotions. This is a way for me to remember the magic of life all around us and share it back with the world.”
