ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I was drawn to this pasture near my home so I decided to make a study painting from life one early morning, and then this finished piece in my studio. What struck me as I was painting the beautiful hills in the background and the cow that gradually kept coming closer to me trying to figure out what I was doing, (Hiding in the tall grass) was the thought who's land is this really? There was a fence, so there must be a landowner who owns it financially, but that is temporary. The cows are there, but they don't own it. The land will do what it will, a person with a piece of paper and their name on it, is at the mercy of the way of the land. For style I wanted to keep the piece very spontaneous, and impressionistic, and also exhibited some principals of Chinese composition as well.

I was born in, and currently live in Northern California among the Oaks and rolling hills. After receiving a Bachelors degree from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, I moved back to Sonoma County where I have been working and painting ever since. landscape painting inspired by the beauty and wild of Northern California has always been a central theme of my artwork. One day I picked up a beginner Chinese art set, and from then on immediately immersed myself in the application and study of eastern arts. Along with my developing practice of Buddhism, the style and philosophies of Oriental art aroused great interest in me because it sought to express something deeper and more spiritual than western arts seemed to do.
