Wildflower Haze Painting

Hi, I’m Jess, also known as The Navy Sloth. I'm a part-time artist and full-time mum to two beautiful little girls. Based in Cardiff, I paint from a small home studio — my creative sanctuary. Painting is my passion, and I treasure every moment I can spend creating. I hold a degree in Illustration, earned over 20 years ago, and my love of abstract painting blossomed soon after graduating. Influences such as Gerhard Richter, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Joan Mitchell, Monet, and Christo opened my eyes to the beauty of colour, texture, and form in modern art. Since then, my style has continually evolved — always growing, experimenting, and most importantly, having fun along the way. Wildflowers have always captured my heart, and since January 2024, I’ve been developing my own signature style: semi-abstract wildflower paintings on canvas. These works combine my illustrative background with bold, expressive abstraction. My pieces are vibrant, textured, and full of energy — perfect for adding a joyful splash of colour to any space. In addition to my art background, I also hold a degree in Environmental Management and a Masters in Environmental Design of Buildings. Sustainability is important to me, and I believe that by choosing thoughtfully made, lasting pieces like original artworks or high-quality prints, we can make more eco-conscious decisions. Art connects deeply with people — it’s not just decor, but something meaningful to treasure, making it a wonderful alternative to mass-produced products.
