About The Artwork

LARGE REDUCTION ON PRICE A written piece using my poem 'Performance Piece' as the text over a scene of Windsor Castle. The painting is framed which is included in the price, and makes the work 23" x 35" overall. A transcript is below: PERFORMANCE PIECE: Written on the way to Windsor Castle Open Air Competition – July, 2016 At bathroom mirror, brushing mascara, I wonder: is this a mask manufactured, Or am I making myself more like me? Or am I distancing myself from dad, Who returns my steely-blue gaze, unmoved? At sixty, I define my eyes, the organ Most critical with heart, mind and hand To my art- render them visible, And hot-pink my lips, still kissable, Excitable, despite the thinning lines. John Berger’s ‘men act, women appear’ Surfaces from the memory banks Of a lifetime’s selective reading, and I’m on the train to Windsor to condense Fifty years’ drawing, intensely looking Into one day’s concentrated painting. Invited to the grounds of Queenie’s castle A sense of place is what I’m after. Titled ‘Descent’ for monarchy, status Inherited, and stepping down From tower to moat floor, layering Levels and ancient stone, My piece will feature a fairyland Of tumbling shrubs to base steps. Splashing brushstrokes, accidents In paint language - acrylic drips On white canvas - the nouns and verbs Of composition, I have just five hours to Enrich the surface, capture an essence. Hoping technique, experience and a Modicum of talent might coalesce to Knock the socks off the judges, amaze, Impress them with colour and feeling. ‘Don’t think of the prize, the cheque, The honour, all in the future - stay in The moment.’ As train rolls into station, I shoulder bags, easel, canvas, hope; Take a deep breath, step into the light Of a clear, crowded Windsor day.

I am an Australian Interior Designer and painter living in London UK. I believe we are put on this planet to look after each other, including strangers. I make art to have a conversation with people I will never meet, to find a connection between our experiences that reflects our common humanity. I live in an age when the earth faces an existential, environmental and humanitarian crisis through climate change, and art is the way I represent my time and place, to respond emotionally and convey the urgency of the need to become carbon neutral.
