REPAINTED!!!! JUST COMPLETED, VERY IMPASTO- DRING-SHIPS APRIL 2024 I just felt the need to let some energy out after a very difficult start to the year, and I've wanted to retouch this self-portrait for some time. However, the retouch morphed into a beautiful explosion of paint (felling much like Action painting) and what emerged from this experience was an abstract expressionist visage of energy, confidence and a certain oneness with the universe. The process was extremely exciting as I used everything from a brush, rag, back end of a paint tube and even found pieces of broken wood to convey the impasto strokes....seriously satisfying to complete! From the old description: In honor of the fact that I am not a morning person (especially in the winter)...add 3 crazy French bulldogs to that mix and you get a mad dash to dress, grab a coffee, not trip over a dog and get everyone outside into the snow ASAP. Its crazy and cold, but as long as I have a hot coffee and a soft sweater all is well again in the world. Recently, curiosities have arisen regarding representation of the figure and how I wanted to perceive the figure in both naturalistic and implied form. Add to that a wantonness to explore passive and aggressive mark making as an additional sign of visual conveyance, and a new sub-set of figurative works arrives! Each mark I execute in the paint harkens me back to the excellence of Action Painting whereas each action is a roller coaster of emotion. Also, as much as these works are about mark making they are also visual essays of the medium itself and what it chooses to convey during the process of creation.

Statement: My work offers less about the detailed physicality of nature and instead captures the purest emotions bestowed upon the human condition by exposure to nature. The idea of life is given by stroke, passion by line, belief via color, and all displayed as offerings to our truest self. Bio: To Michigan artist Jon Parlangeli there is no other path but to constantly ask and then answer questions via different modalities within his medium. This leads to new explorative bodies of work offering differing styles, genres, or techniques that satiate his curiosity for the space between real and the abstract. Parlangeli uses both nature and figure as his muse often jostling between them to solve internal conundrums exposed during studio sessions. Standing over such processes is his artistic signature, color. Born partially color blind, Parlangeli uses color as his weapon of indelicacy often pushing beyond subtle yet achieving a cosmopolitan of sublime. Parlangeli is a seasoned painter who has placed works within corporate and private collections throughout the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. His works have been shown in the US and internationally.
