About Me, Maya Arumugam @ Megna Paints and brush has been my soulmate. I am an abstract painting artist who learned through studying street painters, my mother and aunt – who as a small child, would make traditional Malay inspired clay sculpture and knitted articles. Coming from a family of limited financial resource, as a child, my creative outlet was crafting from whatever recycled material I could lay my hands on – until I joined high school, where more formal methods of creating art were available to me. Refining my technique over the years from researching street artists throughout Malaysia, I identified colors believed to calm a stressed mind. Colors that bring joy and harmony when the eyes interact with them. This was the source of inspiration for producing my favorite 'Art Therapy' series – the series I identify myself most with as an artist. Moving on from street art inspiration, after a 2007 visit to Ravi Varma’s (greatest Indian painter of the 19th century) painting museum in Kerala, India, I was fascinated by the many parts of India where colors and art play a major part in everyday life. From this I developed my Malaysian street art inspired works to include a more ‘Indian’ edge – showcasing the vibrant color found in everyday India life. A chance meet with Australian artist (resident in Malaysia), Karlene Banfield, my source of inspiration changed course yet again. Working with Karlene, I learnt to further refine my skills to include an entirely different flavor – moving away from the sweet innocence of traditional art forms inspired during my adolescence / early adult years, into a form which incorporates a more modern, abstract approach to the realities of our modern day environment and the relationships we human beings have with it. When I’m not travelling, my spare time is still engrossed with painting – almost always through to the wee hours of the morning. With this in mind, I also enjoy the long dry eyes which come from all night painting, coffee & music to pick me up and beach walks with sunset backdrop to refresh my mind and soul. All I need is my art to travel and part of my sales profit goes to charity / animal shelter. Do contact me at ? : Insta: Mayaz.art ☎️ : 6012:3389542 For any charity aid or info. ❤️ Maya
