ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Yellow House is a house with a lot of different faces divided over different times of the day and time. It's in fact a bar, a restaurant and overnight it turns into a club. But the yellow house portrayed here its mainly just a yellow space. Not a waiting room, but rather a room waiting. The work is part of the series 'Club Culture', all painted on-location, at different concert halls, clubs and bars in Amsterdam during the closure of lockdown. Making for a scene and a subject taken out of its normal habitat, inside a void, this emptiness creates a very slow sense of time, an emptyness Casper tries to answer, to fill up with paint. Looking for an impression, an vision of emptiness, the search for the esthetics of emptiness. The feeling were your longing for entertainment, longing for social interaction when you look at the works, that's what speaks in this series of works. You want to be there, you want to be part of it.

Casper is a multi disciplinary artist always depicting a certain moment in time at a certain place. A moment in which a DJ performs live on the stage on a festival in front of an audience. A scene I relay to portraying them with black ink on paper, using a handfull of brushes and a feather penn, flowing on the rhythm of the music and the intuition of a constant chaos that is the festival stage on a pumping techno party. Another moment in time is that in which this energy makes place for total silence. Silent dance floors, ball rooms and concert halls are empty for two years and they temporarily turned into my private art studio. I was there depicting the esthetics of emptiness captured in a series of oil paintings. A moment in between I depicted a scene on the streets of Minsk, Belarus, the last European dictatorship, here the virus isn’t called covid, but rather Lukachenko. This darkness made place for a year of subtropical Sicilian and Napolitanian urban landscapes. Depicting the streets normally flocked with tourists now making place for yet another unique silent atmosphere.
