About The Artwork

Every spring season in Korea, the yellow dust originating in Inner Mongolia and China covers the entire Peninsula. And it moves to Japan and far to American continent, crossing over the Pacific. This painting depicts the phenomena on the basis of the artist's visual imagination. It may look rather beautiful, like the stars reflecting on the dark blue sea. It's probably due to my perspective that I should focus on the the natural phenomena itself, the quintessence, than its visual reproduction. This painting is done on Canson watercolor paper with oil and stone powder pigment in the way that I put thick oil layer of blue on the paper then I scattered the yellow stone powder pigmen on it. On account of thick layer of oil, it shouldn't be rolled in a tube. Therefore, it will be shipped in a cardboard box with extra careful packaging and recommended to be put in a transparent acrylic box or wooden frame behind the glass. I prefer the latter.

Korean Painter, Sculptor Born in 1962, Studied at Hong Ik University majoring in Painting(BFA) Lives and works in Paju,South Korea. - "All the ideas for this 'Paddling' Series come from playing in the water or paddling on the water. Your thought on where the brushstrokes begins and ends just make sense in that point. Because when you paddle on the water, the act of paddling appears on the water and then disappears. In that sense, it's meaningless to find where it starts and ends and even meaningless to distinguish 'drawing' action from 'erasing' action on water. That's how I drew the concept of 'drawing on water', so to speak, onto the canvas in this series" - 2020, Yoon Joo
