I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a photo of a pair of Crocs with a weapon sticking out of them. The caption read, "You've heard of Elf on a Shelf, Here's a..." I cracked up laughing and instantly wanted to paint it, but thought "Would THAT be considered art?" What qualifies as "fine art"? I wanted the painting to look as BOLD and awkward as possible, but also meticulous with details and quality that is characteristic of any other fine art piece. With this piece I ask,"Is this fine art enough?" This was also painted during the pandemic and civil unrest around Black Lives Matter in America. I thought this piece is also exemplary of the attire that might've been present should a second Civil War occurred. Thus, I purposely omitted the ankle (and race) of the individual. This piece is also published in Distant Memories Zine which you an access here https://www.pastpresentprojects.org/zine. Stretched canvas, with no hanging hardware. If you haven't guessed it yet, it's a GLOCK ON A CROC.

Greetings! I am Brejenn. I am 21. Black. I enjoy mixing media, feelings, and colors as brilliant as I am. I paint with oil and acrylic on a variety of surfaces. My experiences with sewing for my family's business has transferred my interest in cloth and patterns onto the canvas. I love TEXTURE and feeling. It is important to be able to FEEL when you sew, because eventually you will not be able to SEE. I love laughter and uncomfortable conversations, silence, and spaces, so I bring them all together for tea in my artwork.
