I Studied Ceramics and Textiles at College, and try to recreate my favourite glazes and textures, mostly inspired by nature, using different mediums. Paints of varying consistencies, and bases, adding glue and alcohol and thinners. Building up layers over several weeks. I love how there is interaction between the wet paint, how added moisture or direct heat influences the outcome: and as it dries, cracks and peels, gives texture and interest, often revealing the sub surface. I am happy that I am not fully in control of the painting and it is left to speak for itself. This series - 'Strength through Adversity' is a collection of studies and explorations for a much larger Commission, to celebrate a personal milestone for the buyer. From our conversations it was evident that we had both faced similar challenges, and both come through stronger and better for it. We began to look at different rock and mineral formations, millions of years of natural waste being layered and crushed. Through immense pressure, time and heat, the material is transformed and ultimately results in something of strength and beauty. Just for fun, the pieces have been named after friends and family, though I have been happy to alter some of the names to personalise those given as gifts!

Based In the UK, I come from a family of painters and photographers, now 5 generations, who can also be found on here. My art work is largely based on sample Textiles and Ceramic Glazes, which I studied whilst at college. I Use natural products to make many of the pigments I use. For a number of years i was an early years practitioner, helping Pre-school children to express themselves through music, movement and art. I am especially interested in a childs' communicative development with 'mark making'and how they express themselves through colour and form and how different mediums react with each other, how they can change overtime especially given different environmental influences, heat light moisture, for example. Again, this is something I have been exploring in my own creative process. My hope is to engage move intrigue and inspire my viewer. Many of the pieces reflect the music I was listening to (LOUD!) whilst in the studio or a lyric that just stuck in my head. I love working with colour, mixing materials, and am often torn between manipulating and 'lets see what happens when...'
