"Young Peruvian Spinner" depicts a girl doing needlework, dressed in national Peruvian clothing. She looks attentively at the viewer; someone has just called her. Strands of hair have come out from under her hat, and her face is weather-beaten and sunburnt. There is nothing ceremonial or pompous in this portrait. Her face is natural, young and beautiful. The girl is wearing a thick cloak with a colorful pattern and a warm blouse. She has a traditional national costume on her head. This work belongs to the series of paintings "Children of the World". In fact, this is the very first picture from this series. In the picture, a young Peruvian woman is spinning yarn from llama wool. She does it in the same way as her ancestors, grandmothers and great-great-grandmothers did. I believe that continuing and preserving old traditions is very important in our age of globalization. And my task as an artist is to reflect this world that is receding into the past. In my series, I set myself the task of finding stories in which children, our contemporaries, continue the lives of their ancestors. They still wear real traditional clothes and are engaged in folk crafts. It is quite possible that in 50 or 100 years there will be no place where you can meet such people and children.

Anna Shesterikova is a Swiss painter with Russian roots, who works and teaches art in her studio in Buchs SG, Switzerland since 2001. She received her education at the Moscow State Textile Academy at the Faculty of Applied Arts in 1993. Growing up among the volcanoes and along the coast of the Pacific Ocean of the Kamchatka Peninsula, she learned early on to sense nature’s permeating energy. "I am deeply convinced that the artist bears full responsibility to the viewer for the energy that his work conveys, so therefore the time I spend at the easel I see as sacred,'' the artist says. Anna Shesterikovahe draws her inspiration from traveling, literature, nature, music and everyday life. Regardless of the source of inspiration, each of her paintings transmits the unique emotional connection she establishes between the artist and the viewer. Anna Shesterikova’s works is wide and versatile ranging from the finest graphic arts, magnificent watercolor and oil portraits, enchanting natural landscapes to complex decorative artistic compositions. Her loose and seemingly effortless technique turns strokes of paint into unique emotional experiences. Anna devotes much attention to finding new ways in art, combining modern techniques with the traditional school of painting.
