Sarah Langston is a fine artist and writer working on Gundungurra and Darug land in Katoomba, the Blue Mountains. Sarah explores justice and ethics in her work. She is chiefly interested in telling stories about environmental conservation, the rights of women and children, and disability. In 2022, this can be seen in her ongoing ‘Bush Care’ series. This series includes painting, photography and sculpture, and is woven with narratives of bush regeneration crews and their practices. Her painting ‘Bush Care’, principal work of the series, hangs at Katoomba Leura Preschool. Sarah’s recent painting ‘There Are 59 Arches’ is an example of her work exploring disability. ‘Arches’ attempts to draw the viewer into the experience of dyscalculia, a learning disability she was recently diagnosed with. Her painting ‘Slipped Things’ seeks to convey the chaotic internal experience of sensory overload in an urban environment. Sarah’s writing and artwork will appear later in the year in a book edited by Casey Hogan, from Women With Disabilities Australia. Sarah has also written about disability for Queer Stories, a storytelling podcast and show directed by Maeve Marsden, and she has served with the People With Disabilities Advisory Group for the ACON Queer Ability Project. Sarah’s work is available for private sale, is on display at various schools and businesses in the Blue Mountains area, and is held in several private collections. She is always interested in collaborating with others.
