Painting enables me to express my feeling of being connected with a rich and diverse universe. Starting from a feeling of isolation, of living outside reality, I now paint beings going about their day-to-day existence and expressing a full range of emotions: this is Life. The same questions recurrently pop into my depictions: “who am I? What am I doing?” The notion of time passing by has vanished; all that is left is a snapshot of the present moment. I now paint directly on fabric (cotton, linen, etc.), which frees me from the constraints of a specific format, canvas or frame. I paint on a given surface; my brush, my fingers make their own path on the material and give shape to characters, to scenes that develop depending on my inspiration at the time; I do not plan out or anticipate what should be painted and I’m not guided by any preconceived idea. I lose myself in the moment, as if in a separate dimensional spacetime, and give it physical form: the canvas takes shape by itself, it shapes itself. The Will to paint imposes itself on me. Painting, as a generous muse, opens up to the world and makes it hers; it makes me hers and breathes me in. These large painted squares of fabric are lined with coloured linen and can be displayed as contemporary mural tapestries, carpets or ceiling frescoes. This unshaped and unframed material also allows a freedom of execution: it can easily be rolled up and carried away (no canvas: no easel!), thus making it possible to transfer pictorial art to any type of medium, such as wood (furniture), leather, iron, glass... Art is no longer restricted by conventional views such as “paint goes on canvas and paintings go up on the wall”. Art permeates daily life: it becomes accessible to all and even finds itself uses. It has been domesticated. Art has broken away from shackling concepts; it roams free and is no longer constrained to a single medium, to a single place. As an embodiment of the diverse universe in which we live, Art at once affects and reaches out to us all.
