Katherina Remberg was born in Hamburg, Germany. The daughter of a Greek father and a German mother, she currently lives and works in Hamburg. The paintings of Katherina Remberg are characterised by strong colourfulness, but also by transparency. Her technique is especially distinguished through the layering of paint in a step-by-step mode. Some paintings, where up to 60 layers have been applied, achieve through this technique a transparent depth. The colours are applied either solidly or in a glaze technique, and sometimes some layers get scraped off again, are washed off, or get painted over. Through this technique of alienation, the produced images seem to live a life of their own. The artist uses a variety of materials, such as acrylic paints, oil paints, chalks, charcoal and spray paint. In her creations, she mirrors the impressions formed on her many journeys.
